Oscar Olson, KE6EDC (June 21, 1928 - February 25, 2010)

Oscar was born in Monterey Park, California, with a true love of the ocean and a life-long passion for fishing, which garnered him the honor of being the longest-serving captain of a sport fishing boat, his beloved Windsong.

He really appreciated ham radio, because he could be 50 to 60 miles out at sea and talk to Gayle from the boat. If they missed each other, friends like N6KI relayed messages and reports.

When not on the high seas, Oscar was a biology teacher at Cal High for the Whittier Union High School District for 35 years. After retiring, Oscar pursued his passion for fishing full time, as well his passion for growing all kinds of plants including staghorn ferns and orchids.

Oscar and his wife, Gayle, enjoyed many memorable trips to Mexico where they enjoyed relaxing and, as always, fishing.

In addition to his wife, Oscar leaves behind his daughter, Christy, son-in-law, Steve Guthrie, and two grandchildren, Ryley and Shane.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Oscar's name to the San Diego Botanic Garden or the charity of your choice.

A Memorial Celebration for Oscar will be Saturday, March 27th at the San Diego Botanic Garden at 2 PM.Here is how to get to the Garden in Encinitas.
